Why is it useful to have 1 FPMesh + 1 TPMesh?


I’ve checked out the shooter example from Epic and I’ve realized that there are 2 Meshes for the character. 1 FPMesh and 1 TPMesh. So my question is why do we need 2 Meshes, instead of just using the TPMesh ?

One possible pro maybe is that you can bring in more detail for the arms. But is it the only one ?


  • The Camera
  • Usually the weapons and arms are one combined meshes, easier to animate.
  • Easier to work with one separate mesh for the first person view than using the third person one.

Also the game is separated to 2 different views. One is what the enemy sees. And the another one is what you see.
