Hi everyone,I keep getting this weird crash in Unreal Engine 5.4 where it says something like “GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed.” It happens randomly, but when it does, my GPU basically dies for a bit and I have to restart my computer to get it working again. I’m using an NVIDIA RTX 4080 and my system has 32GB of RAM. It doesn’t happen every time, but it’s often enough to be annoying. The only thing that helped so far is switching from Lit mode to Unlit in the viewport or lowering the scalability settings. Is this like a common issue? Does anyone know if there’s a real fix or at least a better way to prevent it?
Hey there @drnooe! Depending on how complex the scene you’re working with, and the stability of the modules you’re using it is possible to push even higher end graphics cards. I would recommend keeping an eye on your VRAM usage when working on particularly heavy scenes as this is the most common method to run into this error.
However, if this is happening regardless of how taxing a scene is, it’s possible that there are some settings or other environmental issues at play.
- Any kind of overlay (for example, Discord, Steam, Shadowplay, etc.) can sometimes cause this.
- Defaulting your Nvidia 3D settings is sometimes helpful if you have previously modified them for other programs.
- A clean reinstallation of GPU drivers can sometimes fix similar issues.
