Never ever ever before was this an issue until lately, and it certainly doesn’t do it when I’m in maya or 3dsm, in both of these programs I am safely able to go above 70C. Only in UE4, only recently, will my computer restart upon reaching 70C.
Unfortunately for me it is impossible to do what I am doing without exceeding 70C, I even took my other GPU out to bring temps down, (Which I remind you, worked flawlessly for months during the Summer).
This is extremely annoying. And I would really really like an answer, or else I may have to ask for a refund on several packages, as they will no longer be of use to me after my client tells me he doesn’t want my project any longer, due to taking too long.
If I understand you correctly, you can operate Maya and/or 3DSMax with your CPU temperature running above 70C without your machine shutting down and restarting. However, when you are running UE4, when your CPU temperature reaches 70C your entire system shuts down.
I am not dismissing this out of hand as there may be a bug with UE4, however, I can safely say there is no built in feature in UE4 to shut your system down if your system gets too hot. What I would suggest is that Maya and 3DSMax may bring your CPU’s temp up to 70C, but UE4 keeps it that high longer while it compiles or builds lighting etc.
Again, this may indeed be a bug, so please send/attach your dxdiag so we can further test this on comparable hardware.
In the meantime, you can perform some diagnostics on your machine with free stress test software like that found here:
