I installed TwinMotion yesterday on my PC and I've had a big issue with it crashing my computer.
One of two scenarios happen: Either dual monitors go black and the PC keeps running, or the monitors go black and the PC restarts. The computer is a higher end gaming computer, less than a year old. It exceeds all of the recommended system requirements of TM.
On a recent crash, after the monitors shut off, our IT person was able to come in remote and could see the program still open (very pixalated), but said the system was no longer listing the Nvidia card. The crashes apparently shut down the graphics card.
Temperatures were all normal, and the fans were not racing.
I can reboot the PC manually and get back in, but after a few minutes, everything crashes again.
I've tried:
-Customizing Nvidia settings for TM.
-Reinstalling TM
-Allow TM on anti-virus and firewall
-Updating Nvidia driver
-Updating Bios firmware.
Not sure what else to do. Has anyone heard of this issue?
You've already tried all of the basic steps I would recommend. Normally, this sounds like it would be a driver issue, but you've already tried updating them.
You could try following the steps in the Twinmotion is not visible after splash screen article to reset your Twinmotion configuration, as it could be possible that the issue is caused by a faulty config file.
If that doesn't work, then you could try launching Twinmotion, and in the Edit > Preferences menu switch the Graphics Hardware Support from DirectX 12 to DirectX 11 (this option will only be available if you are using a DX12 compatible GPU. If your GPU doesn't support DX12, then it will use DX11 by default.)
If that also doesn't work, please submit a bug report here and share a copy of your computer's DxDiag report, and a copy of your Twinmotion.log files (Where to find Twinmotion .log file) for our support team to investigate further.
I can not get the same problem with all kind of test programs.. like Furmark.
Only with Twinmotion.
It’s a bit better when I use Afterburner and put the power slider down to 60%, but it still happens after a while or while rendering at higher samples.
The sample Lakehouse for example.. I can get it to show and render in the high RT in the viewer.. but when rendering it shuts down after a while..
black screen, and have to manual shut down the pc and then start again.
Temperatures are not the problem as far as I can see.. they stay below the marges.
The next thing I want to try now is, getting a new Power unit.
I did get the pc second hand, and maybe the power unit is a bit older than the rest, I don’t know.
Can that be a solution?
The other solutions I could find on this site I tried.. and I get a bit hopeless with this situation..
edit: just looked at the power unit and there’s a Corsair 750w instead of 850w they had told me..
I just installed a Corsair rm1000x psu, including 2 good separate cables to the 3090. Instead of the 750w.
It started with a crash... but when I use afterburner and select max 60% power it looks like it does not crash in some first tests...
Speed will be a bit lower but don't see that as a problem.. ( test at 80% and it still crashed..)
My test.. as a reference in the Lakehouse demo, PT1 picture, in 256-10 and in 4k, tiled off, denoiser on, it takes about 2 minutes and 40 seconds.. (did see this test on a facebook post, and the fastest result posted was 2 min 15sec. )
And the same in 650 samples, and 20 bounces, it did not crash ! (it would be before..) and that takes about 8 minutes.
Maybe to soon to be happy, because i'm not sure yet, but it looks like the 1000w can handle the peek power, although still with 60% power limit.
( updates: stress Test with pt6 example to 1000 samples.. and 15 bounces ; still crash..:)
I noticed you mentioned you were using the MSI Afterburner and wanted to check if you had the Riva Tuner 7.3.3 installed as it is problematic and crashes Twinmotion. The planned fix is coming out with Riva Tuner 7.3.4
Unfortunately, we haven't identified the exact cause of this yet. Based on your observations, though, it could be possible that this may be due to your power supply unit not being able to provide enough power. Please let us know if using a new PSU helps resolve your issue.
Since the issue still happens with the new power supply, although less frequently, it seems that wasn't entirely the cause. I've done some looking into this issue, and from what I can tell, it may be related to the GPU, either with the hardware or settings.
One common cause of this could be to reseat the GPU by removing it and re-installing it, as sometimes the GPU isn't properly seated and can crash because of this when under load.
If that doesn't help, you can check the Windows Event Viewer after rebooting your PC after a crash to locate the exact error that occurred when the GPU crashed. Using that information, you might be able to narrow down possible causes of the crash and actions to take.

Thank you for the follow-up message and patience. The only thing you did not yet list that could potentially help is making sure you have the correct DirectX and C++ redistributable files.
Hi! How is that problem going? Having the same issues here. It also happens with D5 Render. By the way, I changed PSU a few months ago and it’s not that. 1000W now. and still crashing.
