Why does this suck?

Hey everyone!

I recently wanted to learn to rig a car and animate a scene in Unreal. I put almost a week of work into this 600 frame animation, and I know it’s not The Last of Us quality work here, but I was kind of proud of it. I even did all of the sound design, foley work, and VO for the zombies.

I posted this on Unreal Slackers discord, and in almost two days time not a single person engaged with it. This is a high traffic discord. I watched all the other videos and media around my video get likes and comments. Even things obviously at a ‘lower level of quality’ got likes and comments. For some reason not a single person engaged with my video.

I am here today to ask you, why? Please. Be brutally honest. I mean these people don’t know me, it can’t be personal. But I almost feel like it is. So, I’m at a point where I want someone to tell me, ‘because this is generic, and you used megascans assets, and the audio sucks actually, and the composition of the shots are lame, and the color grade needs work…’

I need truth. Because I just don’t understand the reality I’m in if I can’t get a single bit of engagement on a video I deem ‘pretty ■■■■ cool.’

I’m not trying to cry all over you or beg for attention. I really need to understand how this kind of video can go completely unnoticed surrounded by a sea of all different quality work. Something is up.

Thank you so much in advance.

How did you frame the discord post? What did you say with the vid? ( not exactly, but the feel of it ).

It looks fine to me. Nice, but maybe it’s halfway between two worlds? One is zombies, but the other is a driver that doesn’t care about that. There’s disengagement from the driver. Maybe that’s the key?..

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it’s exactly the between two worlds idea–post apocalyptic guy is alone in a wasteland, he chooses a Porsche to drive around. It’s suppose to showcase a carefree attitude to being surrounded by Zombies–“Sunday Drive”.

I posted it in the WIP section and said it was a project that initially started as a car rig animation practice, and I went ham with the environment and sound design. It’s a place for feedback.

It shocked me how little engagement there is with this video. I guess I have different tastes. That’s totally cool, I was just hoping for a few bits of quality feedback and maybe one or two pats on the back, sure.

Thanks for engaging. Cheers.

People can be random, maybe you could try another week with a different subject, and suddenly get lots of reactions…
