I’m a complete beginner and am trying to create a simple level (a basement), and I’m getting this weird, granulated look (mostly visible in and around the corners when two or more walls meet) on certain materials like the basic wall material from the starter content:
Hi Alan, are you using Ray Tracing? Myself, I only did run raytracing once with some demo level and I remember, that I noticed a quite noisy rendering, similar to what you describe.
I did not work with raytracing since then any more, but maybe this can help you getting into some direction to look for.
hey Herb64, sounds like a plausible reason - I haven’t gotten much experience with raytracing yet but I figured this would only improve the looks, and I can’t really remember now if I actively chose raytracing as I set the whole thing up - maybe it was on by default?
Anyway, lemme see where I can turn it off and compare.
Funny thing is, for some other materials, like the 4K wood materials I’m using on some other objects, I don’t get the dancy, noisy look, or the issue is so minor it went unnoticed…
Lemme give it a go and I’ll report back - but THANKS FOR REPLYING!
hey! So, turned off ray tracing on the project’s settings, which prompts unreal to reboot (will first ask for your permission to), and there’s no more moving noise! It does lose a bit of depth on the lighting, unfortunately.
I imagine there must be a way to use ray tracing to our advantage, but it probably requires some pro knowledge to get there.
Thanks thought, the noise is gone like you said!
Hi Alan, good to hear that it helped. Unfortunately, I cannot help you with tuning ray tracing, because I still need to learn on this topic myself, hopefully soon.
