Why does the program stop processing what it's doing when it loses focus?

Whenever I am running the path tracer in windowed mode or full screen, TwinMotion stops processing the image if I just move the mouse away from the screen. This also happens if I go to EXPORT, then Image, Panorama, etc. and move the mouse away to another application on another screen.

Hello ,

Thank you for posting your question in the community about the rendering and processing of the Path Tracer. Because Path Tracer takes a lot of hardware resources and in order to provide the best performance only when Twinmotion window is active does the Path Tracer rendering process stays active. Clicking outside the application will Pause the rendering and free up the hardware in order to allow the user to use the other running applications without problems.

Could you confirm what you mean when you go to the Export menu as I am not sure I am fully understanding what view/process you are referencing? Are you in media mode still with a visible image using Path Tracer, do you see the "Quit Media Mode" button? Screenshot 2022-08-19 102301

Hello Vincent,

Is there a way to have twinmotion continue rendering in the background, if needed, or if the hardware can handle it? As it is a tool sometimes used within other workflows, ( photoshop/ 3d software/cad software.. ) where rendering times can be used more effectively to multitask.

Hi Vincent, if I "QUIT MEDIA MODE" then the image will continue to render if I move the focus away from the Twinmotion application, however, it removes any specific settings from that particluar image and unhides all the models. I just want to be able to continue rendering my images in the viewport while I am doing other things, like checking email, or working in photoshop, or anything else, like responding to this message.

Hello ,

Thank you for the follow-up question.

Twinmotion can export media and keep rendering/exporting as long as the hardware can handle other application running at the same time Photoshop and Twinmotion. The viewport is only paused when Twinmotion is not active to provide hardware to other needed applications.

Kind regards,

Vincent B.

Hello

Twinmotion can export media and keep rendering/exporting as long as the hardware can handle other application running at the same time Photoshop and Twinmotion. The viewport is not able to keep rendering, thus I recommend you export those images instead. You may experience crashes if your other applications are trying to consume the rest and more of the hardware needed to render.

You can make a suggestion on the road-map for additional rendering features/workflows:

Hi Vincent,

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think you understand.

1) The viewport can do realtime rendering, but only if I select "QUIT MEDIA MODE", which unhides everthing and changes light, camera, and environment settings, making it an unusable feature as it now stands. So, not sure why "QUIT MEDIA MODE" can't be applied to saved images as well to actually be of some use.

2) The viewport IS able to keep renderings using the SCREENSHOT command.

3) The reason realtime rendering is important is because I usually like to see how images look using certain colors, HDRI maps, textures, etc. using the lower resolution of the viewport, before I commit to exporting them while I do other things like post production on other images. This is the first rendering program that I have used that doesn't allow realtime rendering while I multitask. I specifically built my machines using RTX 3090Tis with Threadripper 3990Xs and dual Xeons CPUs just to be able to do exactly that.

4) If you believe the above to be an extraordinary situation that requires me bringing it up to the developers, let me know and I will spend the time to. But, if there is an actual reason why they haven't already done so, please tell me that is the case so I don't waste my time. Thank you.
