Why does the launcher need ~60% of my GPU to display 2d images?

It’ll be great to have that fixed, so annoying to have it re-launch when you open a uproject only to close it down again because it’s such a piece of ****.

my laptop is a windows 7 not mac os x.
and if i post this on the answerhub the answer is going to be “we dont care you dont have the system required”.

If you want that fixed, post it in the right place, which is the answerhub. Along with hardware specs and details.

In case of Windows 7 - dying gpu, old or broken driver or overheating is the most likely scenario.

but thinking a little yes is probably overheating because even the launcher is not optimized.
what api does unreal use for the launcher ui or does they use transparent shader and render it on deffered XD.

I close the launcher everytime after my project has loaded by hand. Otherwise it eats up a full CPU core and uses about 1 GB (!) of RAM.
