Why does my material flicker?

I have created this water material, and it starts flickering when applied to an object, it is applied to a plane at the moment. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? It’s a material instance as well if that changes anything.

Can you show the material?

Screenshot 2 is plugged into World Position Offset:

Wow, no idea actually.

It seems you have some uncommon stuff in there, did you get it from a tutorial?

I’d try cutting out whole chunks until it stops doing it, and then put bits back in gradually.

My two favorite hot spots right now are

  1. You’re panning the normal maps on the UVs too fast. When you use that technique, you have to move the noise channel VERY slowly.

  2. Using WPO without enough geometry in the plane mesh.

Reviving this post in case anyone has flickering water planes.

Adjusting the bounds scale won’t help if the bounds are zero (it will multiply by zero).

Try increasing the vertical bounds directly on the water’s static mesh plane.
