For example compared to a program like Hammer editor or J.A.C.K, if you want to make a simple structure or building, you just drag out bsp blocks, you can shape them easily and put them in place easily, whereas in Unreal you have to create them out of static mesh boxes or bsp geometry boxes, then scale them, then move them into place properly again after you’ve rescaled them, if you’re using the bsp geometry and make say 10 of them together or more and try and movethem it becomes so laggy as to be unusable, is there a more practical way to actually build levels within Unreal?
There’s always something like
And other similar things on the market ( this is free ). And
I’ll try that, thanks
If you long for Hammer in UE, you are in luck https://x.com/kronok
I did start using blockout and its decent for building with, but I can’t seem to add materials to the meshes
You’re not supposed to, it’s just for blockout.
I’m sure it is possible, but you’d kind of be fighting the system
Its okay I figured it out, if you want to add a material you can just convert what you’ve built to a static mesh actor, thanks for recommending the tool its quite close to hammer editor, makes it a lot easier to build levels with
Did you see the link I posted? It’s literally almost like Hammer, with hot spotting and all.
It looks really good, I will try and download it, I’m glad there’s people out there trying to make it more intutive tools to build levels in Unreal, Hammer was by far my favourite map editor but its not as widely used as Unreal and its very specific so I’m glad this was made
