This is really frustrating: I need to download the latest version of the engine to start working on a project, but I have to wait for almost an hour to retry the logging - probably because of people playing Fortnite or another game through the launcher.
Why do I need to sign in in the first place? Is like a ■■■■■■ DRM, but this time not to one playing a game, but to one trying to install the engine. Why not separate developers from players? Players can wait to play a game, devs can’t wait to do their job.
At least, is there some way to download the engine without the EpicLauncher?
You can download UE4 from Github if you would like to avoid using the Epic Games Launcher. You can follow this guide to find out how:
As for the reason we require logins, this is due to the EULA. Without requiring people to log in to either the Epic Games Launcher or Github, we cannot guarantee that the person downloading the editor has agreed to the EULA which would cause legal issues.
Still, Epic could at least make separate spaces for those who are going to play and those who are going to create - so the developers wouldn’t face this issue.
