Why can't I check 'Update Animation in Editor' for Actors or Pawns?

Hello,

I can’t check the box for ‘Update Animation in Editor’ for Pawns or Actors, it only seems to work for the Character class. Does anyone know if this is by design, a bug, or am I missing something?

I’ve tried creating both actors and pawns with a skeletal mesh component (the UE4 Mannequin), assigning an animation blueprint, dragging them into the world, and then trying to enable ‘Update Animation in Editor’, but the box won’t check.

I’d like to have this feature enabled so a spaceship that has extendable/retractable landing gear can be placed correctly in the world according to its state.

Did you ever solve this? I have the same issue.

I found a way to solve this for the ARKit. Its a blueprint workaround but maybe it gives you an idea of how you might update the setting for your project. FIX: Update Animation in Editor value for Unreal Engine | ARkit Live link | Bite Size Tutorial 01| - YouTube
