Why are shadows in unreal engine so dark?

hey, so im pretty new to unreal, and the 3D world in general, so I don’t know if my solution is the right way to do things but here we go…

I am using ultra dynamic sky, and the interior shadows are way to harsh and looked as if lit by a flood light instead of nice ambient with some direct sunlight… but I have noticed playing around with the cascade shadow maps settings (particularly, distribution exponent and dynamic shadow cascades) has really helped me get a more natural look to my shadows…

if anyone knows of a better solution to this, or why If I shouldn’t be messing with these values please let me know. but it seems to work for me.

hope this helps (Y)
good luck!

Shadow Contrast Scale in PostProcessVolume worked for me, also indoors.
