Why am I seeing problems with Landscape Spikes?

I have a Problem with the Landscapes Layerblend in Version 4.2.

It doesn’t seem to be a Problem directly with the Landscapes and more with the Materials. When I make a new Material and put it on (Even if I just but on the TextureSample directly in) it just freaks out.
Here you can see my Problem and my Material:

Hi Nobody,

So this only occurs when you put a material on the landscape? Does this happen with any material or is it when you use specific nodes? Further, can you post a screenshot of the entire material you are creating so I can have a look at what might be going on? Thank you!

Hello ,

Thanks for the quick reply. Here is my Material I am using. If I am using no material or just put a simple texture on it seems to work and apply but then I am using it like this and how it worked previously (Although previously the LayerBlend looked a bit different)

Hi Nobody,

If you are comfortable with it. Please attach your material file here so I can have a look. I tried to copy your material as closely as possible, however I was unable to reproduce this effect.

Hey ,
I have uploaded the whole Material with all its Textures so you now got the Material where I got the Problem with.

Hey ,
Finally Uploaded to dropbox. I don’t think I would be able to upload it here cause there seems to be a Size Limit Here you go with the link:

Hi Nobody,

Unfortunately due to our company firewall I am unable to access these files, can you post them to dropbox or upload the . file here? Thank you!

I have this same problem. All landscape materials from 4.1.1 cause this spike issue. The only solution it seems is to rebuild the material from scratch (no, a copy or simply re editing the original doesn’t seem to work).

True. When I recreate the Material from scratch the spike issues are gone. Thanks for that!

Did this only occur to landscapes made prior to 4.2 or does this occur on newly created landscapes as well?

It also occured on newly created landscapes.

Hi Nobody,

We had a look at your material and found that you were using world displacement and tessellation to create it. This is causing your tessellation issue to occur. You should only use these options on static meshes, not on landscapes created with the landscape tool. Turning off tessellation and removing any instance of world displacement will keep you from having this happen. Have a great day!

Hi everyone!
I had the same problem with landscape and tessellation and I found a solution. All you need to do is use flat tessellation instead of pn triangles (landscape doesn’t seem to like them) and it works fine!
