Hi dear friends, i want to buy cpu , but i dotn`t know which is better for " unreal "
inter core i3 or amd fx 8320
Please tell me, how does it work with core, whether to take 8 coress from AMD or 2 cores from Intel as well as the pros and cons using these cpu`s in “unreal engine”.
Look with building a game you often require high amounts of CPU data… More then what you would need to play the game… So take that into account… If you are going to build a mobile game either would be fine because they will both be more powerful then a mobile device… Both would also be fine with a 2D game… However if you are going to build a game for lets say a console quality(Not Tripple A, the industry use $1000+ CPUs, which is way too much) then your going to need something more powerful… I would always recommend an I5 Core Intel for gaming, and an i7 for developing anything(Intel is usually more expensive, but a lot better then AMD for Gaming)… However saying that if I were you I would wait until next year to upgrade because new tech coming out recently is rapidly improving the computing power and costs haven’t quite lowered just yet.(that’s what i’m going to do)
The more cores the better for Dev. Compiling C++ code does use all available cores, even if you are not a programmer you will benefit from multiple cores because you may have various programs open at the same time like Photoshop, 3dMax, Modo, LogicPro and so forth. I have a nice X99 5820K OC’ed to 4.5 GHZ and it’s a beast.
I have an i7 4790 running at 4 GHz.
What is also not unimportant are the other components like RAM. I have 32 GByte installed, so even with UE4 editor, 3DMax, Photoshop, etc open, the system does not need to swap memory.
Also the GPU is quite important… It of no use if you have a top CPU, a lot of RAM and then put a GeForce210 in the system. I guess it would run, but not really good…
But getting the “best” might also be not such a god idea… If you go for a Titan X/Z, you are covered for sure (for the moment :))
What brings me to another question, mabe an expert here can answer:
If powerfull GPUs are a good thing, why are cards like the NVIDIA Quadro/Tesla not suited for game development? What is the catch there
