Where's the mesh editing to flip normals?

The modeling plugin doesn’t seem to be it, and the polygon plugin doesn’t exist anymore.

I’m looking for this, which was straightforward and easy to use:

The toolbar in UE5 is basically empty:

It’s in the modelling tools ( SHIFT 5 )

Or is it just that ‘flip’ icon I see you have there…?

Hi Robert,

The new Modeling Tools should have all of those features, but to get those tools back in the Static Mesh viewer, try enabling ‘Static Mesh Editor Modeling Mode’ plugin. (now disabled by default)

Cheers!

That would have been the expected thing, yes. What you’re showing me is very difficult to find as someone new to this, and seems worse UX.

This is also a bit weird UX…

To get to modelling, in the main viewport, use SHIFT-5.

Ok, I just tried this and… this is terrible UX.

I mean, I remember being told this, but still had to come to this thread to find where it is. The discoverability is basically zero, with not even proper names and black and white very similar icons. It feels like the movie Brazil!

Second, so I used the 3D viewport instead of a mesh window, and it does work. But then I select another mesh… and when I click invert normals, the normals of the first mesh I selected are inverted again, not my current selection! Did nobody test this on regular users?

Ok, so then I have to apparently change to selection mode, so I do… and the normals get reverted again… because I missed a teeny-tiny popup at the very bottom of the screen!

Why the heck is usability down the drain with the new “slick” UE5? Everything was big and colorful and easy to find in UE4, but now I have to take bloody ages with coworkers to show them where everything is, because it’s so small and anonymous looking!

I meant to say ‘invert tickbox’ :sunglasses:

Ahh, thought you meant some other button
