Where to get 8k Macro Variation Texture?

There have been used Macro Variation and Perlin Noise textures in the high quality landscape material. Without them landscape looks poor whatever the grass and others would be. But Perlin Noise has a well-known formula and can be created easily, and good Macro Variation is the only problem for landscape. Where I can get its best version (at least 8k, optimally 16k) for best price with minimum redundant things? Warning: I do NOT need textures of grass, ground, stones etc., I just need the best Macro Variation. Again, where I can buy it?

Not sure someone sells just a macro variation texture, much less the “best” such texture.

You can generate variation textures pretty easily in tools like Photoshop, paint.NET, or the Gimp.

Then again – what’s wrong with Perlin noise? You could use a couple of octaves and cover as much as you need of the terrain.

It would help if you could define what you mean by “best” to start with.

Of course, not dully upscaled in Photoshop, but with really maximum level of high-quality details.

Here’s an 8k variation texture that’s not dully upscaled in photoshop.
If “best” means 8k resolution, you should be all set! It’s a TGA so there’s very fine detail – you’ll need to import it without compression to preserve that detail.

Thank you very much. Can you explain where do you get this texture? I see you have uploaded it into your own site. Did you do it yourself, or share from workflow of your game? I see that site is almost dummy, there is very few content on it. Also I see this texture is not gray-scale but my landscape allows only one value that matches one color. Am I allowed, for example, to use just blue and put the Perlin Noise into green? Also am I allowed to use this texture in my game that is going to be commercial? I ask for serious answers.

I made this texture from scratch in Photoshop.

If you only need one channel, you can extract one channel (either is fine) and use that, or you can still use the color texture, but take just one of the channels (red, green, or blue) into the shader.

I release this texture into the public domain – do with it what you wish!

Now, the problem with this texture (or any texture like this) is that I had to make some assumptions about the level of detail, the degree of variation, what kind of structure to expose, and so on – both at macro and micro levels. These assumptions may or may not work for the look you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a particular look or outcome, playing around with filters, noise, and painting in an image editor will likely let you get something much closer to what you really need. Photoshop if you have it, Gimp if you want something free and powerful, or whatever else like Paint.net or Krita or somesuch.

Even things you buy from the marketplace, sometimes needs editing to “gel,” so learning how to use tools like Photoshop and Maya (or Blender, or 3ds Max, or …) is going to be a strong skill for your future projects.
