I dont want to install Unreal Engine without source code, not only because of source code, but also, because installer uses C:\ disk for many unneeded directories C:\ProgramData, C:\Users etc…
I just want single directory with Engine and all staff in one place, without any windows installation boolsheet ^)
So, source code version doesnt have Launcher, where to download examples manually via browser? thx.
When you compile the source code and launch it, you get the Projects manager window. If you then try to click the Marketplace button the editor will tell you that you need the launcher and ask you if you wish to install it at this point. If you choose to install it and pick the UnrealEngine folder where the source code is located, the launcher will detect this as your “installed” version of Unreal Engine. After this it will not try to download the engine when you use the launcher.
The downloads from the marketplace will still end up in your Documents folder. This is a known limitation of the launcher and last I heard they were still working on a fix for this.
No, it doesnt detect that Unreal Engine installed, it requires installation.
Even if i create 4.0 directory and copy source code into it, like when i have usual UE4 install.
Currently the Launcher will not detect GitHub’s copy of the editor.
However, if you make sure you install the latest version of the launcher, you should now find that if you cancel the UE4 download, then the Launcher will no longer bug you to install it again and instead you will see an Install button which you can ignore at will
You can then continue to use launcher to download from the marketplace without it trying to install the binary UE4 for you.
