Where is the Vault stored?

I was under the impression that the Vault is somewhere remote, but after thinking about it for a while… it kinda makes sense that it’s hidden somewhere locally as well (and the HDD diskspace kinda confirms it) but I just can’t locate where it is.

Any help? (for backup purposes, i do not want to re-download 50GB when I format the HDD)

Hi Devshark,

You can find the vault by going to this file path:

X:/ Program Files / Unreal Engine / Launcher / VaultCache /

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Ah, pretty much the only place I didn’t check - the Launcher folder does indeed have VaultCache in it. Thanks.

So, can I sneak in a follow-up question - since I stick everything (github source(s), Unreal Projects, 4.0 thru 4.3) in one X:/UE4 folder which has grown up to be 200+ GB in size, backing that one up should be enough for all my future needs, right?

If I understand correctly, I’ll try and answer that.

With the content that is in the content folder for the Vault. You can back those up as “clean” versions that have not been edited. You cannot, however, copy folders into this and have them show up in your projects or vault sections of the launcher. You can however copy anything to or from the Unreal Projects folder and drop in at anytime then restart the launcher and it will be the library.

This may seem cumbersome or counter productive. This is something our team is aware of and are continually making changes and upgrading.

This has now moved to “C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Launcher\VaultCache”

Sorry but, no, this doesn’t seem to be correct. It may be correct for the default install path, but for installing in a non-default folder on a non-primary harddrive it definatelly isn’t.

Hence the downvote. Please refer to the accepted answer.

EDIT: If however I’m wrong and a Epic Games subfolder appears in my Program files and I find out I was wrong and did you unjustice, I will remove the downvote. But until then, the downvote stays until I’m proven wrong; a screenshot will do too.

Note the difference in naming – it changed from “Unreal Engine” to “Epic Games,” unless you customize that bit, too.
And, honestly, if someone finds this answer on the internet, chances are greater that they are looking for the default location, rather than the custom location.

@devshark i can confirm that jwatte is correct about the new default path location as i just installed it recently and was confused about it until i read his comment.
Here’s the screenshot so please remove the downvote:

Has this been changed again? I have downloaded some stuff I want to look at and try out. But I can’t find it.

Same here - can’t seem to locate the new destination.

Working as of August 2018:
Check under Program Files (x86), instead of regular Program Files file

C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\VaultCache

AHA! finally I have found the hidden treasure!

the vault location is C:\Epic Games\Launcher\VaultCache

a cache folder ??? is this a joke ?

devs could not just add a menu in the launcher ?

Wanted to add to the fuss , my vault cache has eluded me for nearly an hour but turns out it is here
