Where is the refraction pin? (translucent materials)

I am making a material from a youtube tutorial.

The guy has the refraction pin enabled on his material.

However, it does not appear enabled to me.

I was trying a lot combinations in the configuration but I couldn’t get it to appear enabled.

This is my current setup.

-My configuration is wrong?
-The pin was intentionally disabled for some reason?
-Or is it a bug?

If my configuration is incorrect… How should I make the pin appear enabled?

Thank you very much.

You can’t refraction on a deferred decal.

You need to change the domain back

No other domain has all the pins I need.

I tried to change the blend mode too and not all the pins I need are there either.

The guy is using UE4… I’m using UE5

Maybe the engineers decided to remove the pin?

How can you have refraction on a decal?..

I honestly don’t know… I’m learning… I’ve only been making materials for a few days… I still don’t know how 90% of things work in unreal…

The guy forgot to say the configuration that he had in his material…

And I have done it testing randomly, Just looking at the pins of his material…

I got another similar setup.

This one has refraction but the roughness is missing.

I honestly don’t see the difference.

I think I could live without refraction and without roughness for this material…

But the guy is very good at making materials and effects with Niagara. He is really an artist. And on his channel I see that he has videos that are more than 6 years old. So i think he knows very well what he is doing.

But as much as I try I can’t get his set up.

So I think I’m going to leave it like this… no refraction and no roughness the effect looks great anyway.

Could you link that video tutorial, so that we can find out, what exactly he is making and what settings he might use?

Edit: To get more pins on translucent materials (that are not decals) you can scroll down on the left side to the Translucency segment, and swithc to SurfaceForwardShading. That gives you almost all pins.

Sure… This is:

This guy have hundreds of effects… he is a gold mine
Enjoy it!!

Yeah, just switch to SurfaceForwardShading as shown above, that should do it. It´s not a decal material, thats for sure ^.^

Yes, the missing pins appear… And the sphere looks incredible…
But the sphere shot effect doesn’t work properly anymore… it looks really bad… it seems like the normal map has a bigger role with this setup. Or maybe is the the world position offset. I don’t know. At the moment the effect of the shot is best seen with decals.

But thank you very much for teaching me this. :sparkling_heart:

Ok… I really think your answer should be the solution to the problem here…

That the material does not work well with that configuration is another matter…

So I’m going to accept your answer and consider this topic solved.

I still have a lot to learn about materials… step by step I will better control this whole thing.

Thank you very much for your help!!
Greatly appreciated!!
