Where have the metahumans gone after the release of FAB?

It’s been almost a month since the release of FAB, and the topic of metahumans is still relevant. The locally installed Bridge offers downloads of metahumans only for versions 4.26-4.27. For Unreal Engine 5, metahumans were previously added through the built-in Bridge. However, since the release, it has disappeared, and the FAB store itself doesn’t offer a way to download the library of generated metahumans. Sorry if I’m a bit slow here; I monitor this topic every day on here and Reddit, but there’s no clear explanation of what’s going on with metahumans.

I monitored this issue for several days, and it turns out that to access Bridge, you need to install it as a third-party plugin from the Epic Launcher. This will make Bridge reappear in the editor. slowpoke image here

The same issue, and my PixelBridge won’t even start, so I can’t even import my MetaHuman.

Hi, as of my knowledge (Ubuntu, UE5.5) there is no way to use MetaHuman Plugin (Not SDK) so far but: You certainly can download the MetaHuman and rig/use it for your purpose.

Here is how [Ubuntu]:
As of 2024/12 MetaHuman cannot be downloaded from Fab but via Quixel Bridge.

  1. Install quixelBridge as third party from Unreal:
You download the bridge from Epic Games where you probably downloaded UE5.x
    https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/download
Then, put it into the Plugins folder of the Engine and start the Engine.

  2. Create a new project

  3. Activate the MetaHuman SDK plugin under Edit > Plugins

  4. Go to QuixelBridge and download your MetaHuman from there, it should appear on the left

  5. You can download via download button underneath the MetaHuman preview. You can rig/animate/etc. it like normal. The main functionalities I lack (On Ubuntu) is the MetaHuman Identity asset which appears to be currently only available on Windows.

  6. Workaround: Use the online version of MetaHuman Creator and download your MetaHuman from there to import customs (like Ubuntu just has a link); This however does not work (as far as i know) with MetaHuman Maker as this is .fbx file

  7. Drag and drop the blueprint of the character you downloaded (either your own from MetaHuman Creator or just one from step 5)
    Result:

Hope this helps you on how to use it.
