Where did the polite go?

Good morning, everyone. There is something that strikes me in these English-speaking forums and that is that when you go to an English course, being Spanish-speaking, they teach people to write gently, but here I see that nobody responds with a: hi, how are you? No, they directly answer you with another question or rudely. Why do they teach us that in English courses when nobody answers like that these days? I always found it ridiculous that we were taught to be gentle, when nowadays if you ask questions in a forum they respond without saying hi or see you later. Is it so hard for us to write others in such a polite way?
That would be a good question. Why teach someone something that doesn’t apply in English-speaking countries? Instead of teaching that, English course teachers should focus on something else.

Hey frank!! that’s an amazing answer out there. You’re right buddy! Mobile device are making people beeing lazy to write hahahaha. Also right on the interaction here is better than other forums such as blender’s or zbrush forums. So, as americans says: GOD BLESS UNREAL FORUMS!!! hehehehe, thanks for the answer men. This really clearify my doubts hahahahaha.

I used to write in semi crypto on the age of “msn” before Facebook was thing…
Pretty much everything would be reduced to an acronym and everybody was expected to understand what was said (nowadays I think ppl use “emoji” for that?!).

Compared to that level of laziness I think forums these days are very good in terms of english.

When people refuse to say “-hi” or “-good morning” every single time every single day, I actually like that person more.
He/she is just showing me that I’m not talking to a ticket machine. I don’t mind at all really, but some people feel really REALLY mad if you don’t bow and beg a compliment every morning… Repetitive robotic behavior.

The way people write on a forum isn’t the same as when you talk in person, because you don’t know each other, it comes off weird. Like saying “Nice to meet you” on a forum doesn’t really mean anything because you haven’t actually met the person.

This is IT forum, not customer service forum

Hey, all! I definitely that people could be more polite or personal, but they do have a point. Most people on here don’t know each other. If you repeatedly talked to someone on the forum you would probably develop that habit, but when you are talking to a complete stranger it is different. I’m not likely to walk up to a stranger and “Hey old buddy! How are you?” I know I’m exaggerating the point, but the same principles apply still.

Cheers,

Tate

Hmm… Internet has always been this way since before I can remember.
After all you are basically typing things on a screen, not exactly talking to someone.

Politeness and dishonesty go hand in hand.

People are mostly on this forum to exchange technical information, so anything more would be wasted time on both sides
