When will Mac users receive guidance on future Twinmotion updates?

Simple question really.

When will Mac users receive guidance on future Twinmotion updates? System requirements are stuck in yesteryear.

We're not getting Path Tracing so it seems to me that there should be at base minimum, support for Ventura; which to my understanding, would allow Mac users to use Lumen. Ventura has been out for ages at this point. Time to clear the air.

Thanks,

J

Hi ,

As of Twinmotion 2023.1.2, macOS Ventura should be supported. I see that the documentation might be outdated and still referencing the original 2023.1 release, so I'll see if we can get that updated. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

With that, you should be able to start using Lumen in the 2023.2 PR1 release with virtually no set up, assuming your OS is up-to-date.

If I might add an enquiry along similar theme .

Requirements for use of " Lumen " with MAC OS on the twinmotion site stating

https://www.twinmotion.com/en-US/docs/2023.1/UsingTwinmotion/bringing-a-scene-to-life/lighting-the-scene-in-twinmotion/lumen-global-illumination-in-twinmotion/lumen-global-illumination-overview#

MacOS

  • Operating system: MacOS 12.x Monterey.
  • Graphics Processing Unit: Requires a discrete GPU, as opposed to an integrated CPU/GPU.

I am working in Monterey with No Lumen option - Selection greyed out .

Regarding "Discrete GPU and integrated CPU/GPU . How is this definition considered when using MAC M1 / M2 hardware with " Unified Memory " . Even 192 GB " Unified memory" on a MAC M2 Studio could be considered " Integrated" and therefore not meeting Lumen use requirements ?

Would this be this correct ?

lumen works nicely on m series macs. i'm working with m2 max with ventura. here's how it looks: https://capture.dropbox.com/JaXkdYL7DjmQYk8G?

Hi Raghib,

I've downloaded the preview and don't see Lumen as an option at all.

Per the set-up instructions...

https://www.twinmotion.com/en-US/docs/2023.1/UsingTwinmotion/bringing-a-scene-to-life/lighting-the-scene-in-twinmotion/lumen-global-illumination-in-twinmotion/using-lumen-in-twinmotion

I'm not seeing "Graphic Hardware Support" in the settings. I'm assuming this is for PC?

"Lumen" is not featured under "Real Time".

Thanks,

J

Thanks for reporting that ,

If you could submit a bug report to https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/case-community-page and attach a copy of your Twinmotion.log files (Where to find Twinmotion .log file) we can take a look and see what might be preventing Lumen from appearing as an option. If there's any particular steps that might have been missed in the documentation for activating Lumen, we can also make sure that gets added.

Raghib

Apologies, I was on the .1 Preview, not the .2 Community Ed. It works on the demo scene and looks great!

I'm skeptical of larger scenes, but we'll see. I think setting up an external GPU would be a good next step; per the System Requirements.

Thanks,

J

I'd like to see some guidance on this too. I'm on a 2020 iMac (Intel). Is the description referring to an eGPU setup?

A 'Discrete GPU' refers to any dedicated graphics unit, internal or external, compared to an 'Integrated CPU/GPU' which is a CPU with an integrated graphics processor for handling graphics operations. An example of an integrated unit would be Intel HD Graphics, which runs the graphics off of the CPU, compared to a dedicated AMD or NVIDIA graphics card.

Those terms are only relevant in the context of Intel-based Macs. Apple Silicon computers (M-series) function differently. While technically using integrated graphics, the M chips have significantly better graphics capabilities than typical integrated graphics. These computers should all function with Lumen without the need of any external GPUs.

Yet Lumen on latests OS X, M1 processor, is still full of bugs. Anytime the rendering results are different.
