McNeel has released the latest Rhino 8, which features revolutionary updates that make modeling for architects much more convenient than previous versions. However, when I tried to use Twinmotion for rendering, I found that the current Datasmith plugin only supports Rhino 7. This is very disappointing, and I hope that a Datasmith plugin compatible with the latest version of Rhino will be released soon.
I was very dissapointed as well when I found out there isnt an official datasmith for rhino 8. BUT! I decided to export my R8 file to R7 to get the datasmith connection when I noticed that after downloading datasmith for R7, there was a datasmith tab in my R8 file as well. Out of curiosity I tried if it maybe works and to my surprise it did! So Im not sure if this was supposed to work like that but for me it does. I just downloaded the datasmith for R7 and it works in R8 as well. Not sure how stable it is but for now it looks pretty good even though Im on the live sync option. So I would suggest to give that a try since the official version isnt supposed to come out till the end of 2024 which is dissapointing…
- We are currently updating the exporter so it detects Rhino8 for installation and potentially do a few updates to fit to changes in Rhino8. We are currently testing the updated exporter, hopefully it should come out soon but no clear ETA yet.
- If the plugin for Rhino7 was already installed, it seems it works with Rhino8. This is what you are seeing @MJJR23
- If you only have Rhino8 on your machine the 5.3 exporter will not detect it and will not install.
Exporter for Rhino8 is out.
Will there be Cinema 4D plugins in the future? Both C4D and Twinmotion are very simple, efficient, and easy to use, making them a perfect match. Unfortunately, without plugins, many people in the advertising media industry (such as exhibition halls, cultural walls, interior decoration, stage design, and styling design) have turned to competitors with plugins
Twinmotion reads C4D files, there is no plans to make a direct link plugin ATM.
Hello Rhino 8 is now supported, please find the plugin here
Will there also be a Rhino 8 Datasmith plugin that’s also compatible with Unreal engine 5.3 ? I’ve got quite some bugs trying to export things to Unreal 5.3 with Rhino 8.
For example;
-
Ghost objects, where suddenly my unreal file need to save 9000 assets. eventho the datasmith should only contain around 150 objects.
-
My whole Datasmith getting ruined and all the objects are randomly spread in my scene which means i need to delete the datasmith and reimport everything again and apply all the materials.
