When opening TM I get a pop up box with a big list of missing files & once opened I am missing loads of materials and surfaces. If I close and restart TM enough times it will eventually resolve the missing files and open correctly. Anyone know how to fix

Hi ,

That window appears when Twinmotion is unable to locate files, usually textures, at the location where they were originally stored when they were added to your Twinmotion file. Usually this happen when the texture files were moved from their original location, but it can also happen if the files aren't stored locally, such as on a network drive or cloud storage location and haven't synced to your computer.

If you select Open, you can choose a different location for Twinmotion to look for the missing textures, if they were moved.

If you select OK, Twinmotion will open without attempting to load those textures, which is why materials go missing. You can still re-apply textures after doing this, but you will need to do so manually for each missing texture.

Hi Raghib, Thanks for your reply.

I agree it does look like this is the issue however None of the libraries or source information have been moved and everything is saved on my desktop because I have the same linking issue with ArchiCAD so I keep everything local and non-networked to avoid these issues. Also, if I shut down and restart enough times it does eventually locate things and open correctly but it's taken me an hour so far this morning to get it to open up a model that I was working on fine yesterday. Very frustrating. The other issue is the file path for the error is incomplete and I have tried a number of searches to try and locate what it thinks it's missing and I can't find anything relevant so I'm a bit stuck atm. Any other ideas?

Hi Raghib,

Very kind of you to investigate this further and thank you for your advice. I am very new to Twin Motion so if it's not asking too much, would you mind explaining further how/where the resource collector is and how I set this up please?

Massive thanks in advance.

Alex

I've looked a little further into this, and those file paths (/var/folders/) look like they store the temp files and cache on MacOS. What is likely happening is that the textures are stored in that temp directory, and since temp files are volatile and subject to change or deletion, it leads to the textures not being detected consistently, and which is why you weren't able to find them through a search.

One way to prevent this from occurring in the future is if you use the Resource Collector in Twinmotion's Edit menu. This allows you to easily create and save a folder containing your Twinmotion file, as well as all of your textures, so textures won't be lost because they're being stored in the temp directory.

I hope that helps.

Hi Alex,

It's no problem at all. We just recently released documentation on how to use the Resource Collector which you can read at https://www.twinmotion.com/docs/en-US/managing-your-twinmotion-content/the-resource-collector-in-twinmotion/. It should be fairly quick and simple process to complete.
