Hello! I was trying to export a sequenced file from 3ds max 2024 to Unreal using Datasmith 5.3. Direct Link option. When imported into Unreal the 3d solids shows up, but when trying to add animations to sequencer there is no animation folder for the linked 3Ds Max file.
While using the same Datasmith 5.3. regular file import option, the animation folder shows up and animations work.
Is it possible to Direct Link and 3Ds Max file with animations included?
Direct Link for 3dsMax does not support animation sequence export, only file export does. We’ll update our documentation to make it more clear.
Think of Direct link as a snapshot of your 3dsMax viewport at the current animation frame sent directly to your Unreal Editor (fastest workflow), whereas File Export is a slower, comprehensive export with a lot more data, including the entirety of your animation sequence (depends on your export settings, see “Animated Transforms” option in the documentation).
