As far as good ideas go, I find that there is hardly ever a eureka moment. You have to work with many ideas that don’t quite hit the target, over a long period of time ( weeks - months ). Because your brain needs to age and revisit the whole thing at a later date. Then you get the best answer.
I’ve been tinkering with how to relate certain colors to the player without it being at all obvious. But once they see it, they should wonder how they missed it.

Finally settled on a natural looking library scene with, carefully placed:
A book, a butterfly in a case, a plant in a pot, an ‘artifact’. Each one of them can be any color without attracting interest.
Job nearly done…
