Hello. I’m new to Unreal Engine as I’m trying to learn how to make games. My goals for this machine are purely for educational purposes since I doubt I can make a quality product for the masses just yet. My goals for Unreal Engine are mainly learning C++, the creation of 3D, 2D and 2.5D games (I know Unity exists, but still). My current specs are:
*Computer Model: Lenovo ThinkPad E460
*Processor: Intel Core i5 6200u
*Graphics: Intel HD 520 Integrated Graphics
*RAM: 8GB
*Storage: 480GB SSD (90.2GB Free at the time of asking)
And it supports the latest versions of DirectX. Thanks in advance for the help.
Hey there @MysticPaul97_YT! Welcome to the community! I would recommend start testing with Unreal Engine 4.27 as it’s the most well optimized version of the more modern group. However, be warned that your hardware isn’t ideal for Unreal Engine. While the requirements for even the more optimized 4.27 are lower than any of the 5+ versions, the engine was never built to run on lower end laptops or integrated graphics. You may also face significant thermal throttling if the cooling isn’t sufficient. I must also caution that you will want to have some space freed up on that SSD, as Unreal + it’s editor symbols can take up a significant portion of that space. That said, definitely give it a try since the engine itself is free!
