I’m looking to try out Unreal Engine’s virtual scouting tools with a VR headset, preferably one of the newly released ones like the Quest Pro or the Vive Elite XR. However, Unreal’s documentation says there is only support for “HTC Vive, HTC Vive Pro, Oculus Rift, and Oculus Rift S VR HMDs”.
Are these really the only compatible headsets?
Hi JH,
Welcome to the Forums, I think it’s safe to say that those docs are out of date. ( here is a more up-to-date list, the Quest Pro works just like the Quest 2 and I’d expect the Elite to function as well ) If you can find the list you mentioned above, let me know and I’ll forward it to the docs team for an update.
I’m not sure how it will work in UE5 (it’s considered legacy at this point) But if you have an AR compatible iOS device, you may be able to do some phone-based scouting. Sample project
Also consider the Quest 2 (or Quest 3 if you can wait until Q4) - If you’re only looking to get an HMD for virtual scouting you may not need to pay extra for eye-tracking, face-tracking, full color passthrough + expensive optics.
Thank you so so much for your response!! This answered everything. I think I’ll wait for the Quest 3 as we’ll only need it for virtual scouting.
