Hi , I want to use the time over the next few months to learn Unreal, My Mac has 10.13.4 OS, and I don’t want to update for a while is possible… What is the best version of Unreal for me ? I’ve tried a few versions and it keeps crashing I’m a C4d user and would use unreal to create environments, animations etc. for film/music and NOT for gaming.

Unrerl Engine 4.24 my be the best version for you.
But do Unreal crash for you? Do you try to make C++ project or Blueprint projects?
Hi Blackforce Dragon… thank you for reaching out with a possible solution. Unreal does crash when I put it up. I don’t understand what a C++ or Blueprint project is yet ? I’m incredibly new to all of this

C++ and Blueprint are the code languages Unreal Engine 4 use.
If you try to use C++ then you need Visual Studio, If you use Blueprints, then you don’t need it.
First try to upgrade your graphic card, restart your computer.
If that don’t fix it, try to verify the Unreal Engine 4 version you are using.
If that don’t help, try to reinstall Unreal Engine 4.
If that don’t help try to troubleshoot the Epic Game launcher, to troubleshoot click on the gear icon on the bottom left corner in the launcher and click on troubleshoot If that don’t work try to reinstall the Epic Games launcher. I believe you
It can be that Unreal Engine 4 or the launcher is missing a or more files

Hi Backforcedragon and a million thanks for helping out here. My set up is actually a custom built Hackintosh with an Nvidia Graphics card GTX 970 4095 MB 3.3 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Processor and 64 gig of RAM . I’m useless at "under the bonnet " stuff when it comes to computers and I’m weary of updating graphics cards etc. in case my system goes down, and I can’t get my “man” out until this Covid-19 thing calms down. I installed 4.24 but when I try to open it, something very quickly flashes up onto the screen and 4.24 closes. It’s so quick that I can’t read it or screenshot it.
Under the current climate I’m a bit weary of tinkering with the "nuts and bolts " of my computer in case it all stops working
Try to use a screen recorder, maybe it can capture a message. OBS Studior or nVidia Shadow Play is good screen recorders
