I’m starting a little game project with a small team of people, to learn how to use Unreal.
I’ve already made some games with small teams on Unity and Godot, but this will be my first unreal project.
Should i use the 5.5.4 version or an other, knowing that we will use GitHub and Fmod.
Sure! Why not? But if you have no specific reason to use 5.5 (which is very unlikely) you can as well go with 5.4!
5.5 performs worse than 5.4, but that’s not the only reason I recommend 5.4. 5.4 also performs worse than 5.3, so why not 5.3? Because, 5.4.4 is the latest version before the drastic changes 5.5 brings. I personally encountered quite a bit of issues using 5.3 back then, which got fixed in 5.4. But when it comes to 5.5, there’s no reason to pick it over 5.4 unless you have a very specific requirement. Therefore I view 5.4 as the most complete version of Unreal before 5.5.
Of course, there’s no problem in picking 5.2, or even UE4! Which version to choose completely depends on your project’s needs.
These won’t affect the decision at all.
Additionally, keep in mind that it’s best to stick with the version of your choice once you start your project, especially if you’ve advanced in it.
Hope these help!
