What users need - 2. Video an Animations

I'm opening this topic where we can collect in one place what we - the users - would like to recommend to the developers.

2. Topic is: Video and Animations

Please write your suggestions here, what should be improved or replaced in relation to this topic?

When making a video in TM, the video starts at full camera speed.

This is disadvantageous when making a video, so it is necessary that the video first speeds up from 0 (adjustable) and then the end of the video slows down in the same way.

This should be the default setting, as it is natural in Lumion:

Lumion 2Lumion 1

Keyframe (clip) duration (length) cannot be set.

Unfortunately, this causes quite a lot of problems, many people talk about it:

https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/question/0D52L00004IKxWcSAL/how-do-i-edit-the-playback-speed-for-my-animationvideo

Keyframes must be parameterizable not only in terms of image settings, but also in terms of length.

keyframe lenght

After render animated objects are in other position!

It's due to the dynamic generation of these paths that you won't be able to consistently control when and where the characters or vehicles generated will appear at any given time when working with media.

This is definitely a problem.

more details here: https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/question/0D54z000084zutJCAQ/problem-with-animation-path-and-still-render

There should definitely be such a feature when we see exactly what will actually happen in the rendered image, or video clip

Paths:

If I make a vehicle path, the wheels of the cars turn and follow the turn, which is great.

But if I put the same vehicle on costum path, its wheel does not turn and it does not follow the turn.

Also, if I set a moved object to travel the path only once, it unfortunately disappears at the end and returns to its starting position.

Why doesn't it stay at the endpoint?

It would also be great if the speed of the objects could be changed within the given route.

Sections could be marked out where the vehicle has a different speed, perhaps stopping for a while.

Weather and layer settings globally!

If I want to change some settings (layer, weather etc) afterwards, I have to go through all the keyframes one by one, change and update them.

more details here:https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/question/0D54z000084wDZ8CAM/is-it-possible-to-change-the-weather-and-lighting-and-environment-globally-and-have-it-be-reflected-across-all-videos-in-media-mode

There should be a solution to apply the changes to all videos or just the entire clip (all keyframes in the selected clip) including light, weather and layer settings.....

I'm happy to see more and more human characters appearing in TM.

These can be used well for rendered images, but they are not good for videos.

Since the future belongs to motion picture presentation, animated humans should be expanded after the introduction of posed humans.

The currently existing animated human works great.

These moving characters should be further developed according to occupation and weather, as the posed human categories were born.

postscript: The option to set the rain is good in TM, but no character has an umbrella.....

Many users complain that the effect of the wind is barely noticeable on the trees.

I am very happy that according to the TM Roadmap, the library can soon be expanded with usable trees:

Trees 2We really ask the developers not only to think about the trees, but also about the good wind effect associated with the trees.

Hello Artenim and Adanosia,

Thank you for providing this great input and please make sure to also submit your comments and ideas to the road map and include the link to this discussions and/or other applicable ones to make it easier to find the relevant information and images you are sharing.

Kind regards,

Yes, this enhancement is essential. Inevitably, users would then want granular control such as "rate of acceleration", etc - but a simple "Ease in" over the first few seconds would be a good start.

I guess this is already possible when using assembled "Parts" in a Video (each with it's own duration to simulate speed), but it's cumbersome having to do a copy of the preceding end frame at the beginning of each Part. Your suggestion would be an improvement, although some thought needs to be given to the transition speed between each keyframe.

Agree with this - and related to it the evergreen problem of Delay not working; https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/question/0D52L00003wE0mfSAC/how-do-i-tell-an-animated-object-when-to-travel-on-its-custom-path?language=en_US

Yes - although Lighting and Weather are controllable on a Part by Part basis with the Settings button at the bottom of each Part. "Layers" (or better described as Container visibility in TwinMotion) is not as easy to control yet. I agree that it should be possible to make the contents of a container visible in some global way, rather than switching them on/off for each keyframe in a Video.

Hi Adigitata,

The part function can actually be used when 2 keyframes are not connected. When there is a cut and the clip continues from another place. It doesn't really work when used for speed control.

But your question about the speed transition between each keyframe is completely valid and I really like it.

What if we could specify the speed of the camera instead of the length of the frames?

Between the two keyframes, we could set the mode of speed transitions:

- gradual (linear)

- parabolic (smooth)

- without transition (step)

What do you think Adigitata would be good like this?

Something like that, yes. I'm not sure specifying speed in km/h is useful though - we've become so used to working in duration (s). For instance, a pan shot in an interior scene is actually 0km/h but I'd want to specify how many seconds it takes to pan from view A to view B.

I've created a simple exterior video with a camera moving between two intersections. This is a typical scenario where it would need to accelerate/ decelerate in reality. In TM this is not yet possible as you have outlined. For 6 seconds the camera is forced to travel at a consistent speed.

I've not used Lumion, but LumenRT handles this fairly well. This shows the 6 second duration between the two intersections and the software automatically applies an accelerate/ decelerate camera path.

As a bonus, you can control the shape of the acceleration/ deceleration curve in another UI within the movie editor. Something along these lines would really improve movie-making in TM!
