Hello. While working, I had a question. What types of objects can I not change or use? Do I understand correctly that I cannot load my character model, weapons and equipment (cars, tanks, helicopters, etc.) with which the player can interact? I can only add props and make a level based on them, right?
Hello Kunstmant, Welcome to the Forums.
The only way I’m aware of for Player/Weapon/Vehicle “customization” is to attach a Static Mesh particle to yourself.
I’m interested to see how Epic eventually navigates adding our own character models. It seems at odds with what I imagine to be Fortnites primary revenue source - selling skins.
Thank you very much for your answer! Yes, I also think this is a difficult decision. As I understand it, the main source of income for Fortnite is skins. and either epic games will follow the path of Valve, adding custom skins and paying the creators a percentage of sales, or this will never happen. I doubt it could be otherwise
If possible, 1 more question. can I make an island based on realistic models and not Fortnite stylized?
You’re welcome!
You can import your own realistic models (static meshes and skeletal meshes for animated things + NPCs) so yes realism is achievable.
NPCs, that is, I can add my own NPCs of any appearance, but I cannot add the model of the player/players? So, a rational option, if there is a stylization other than Fortnite, is to make it a 1st person view without other players, so that existing skins don’t ruin the atmosphere?
I’m not sure if you can reskin AI/Guards with your own skeletal meshes, so you might have to set up your own animation transition systems currently.
First Person camera would be a good solution. (But if the avatar has silly hands or is wearing silly gloves those might be visible. )
