Just here to testify: I am currently fixing a Unity App for a client that got all jacked up by him paying someone with little experience. He spent many thousands of dollars to get an unscalable, bug-riddled app. Ultimately he had to hire a company (my company) to get the thing working again anyway, and we’ve ended up having to fix alot of things that would have been easier to have just write from scratch (costing more money).

Unity and Unreal engine are not the same beast. Their underpinnings are different. They are both game engines, they have a lot in common on the surface, but they each have their own unique quirks, problems, and workarounds. It’s possible for an engineer to know a lot about both, but it’s dangerous to think that being an expert in one makes you an expert in the other.
-
This might sound mean, and I don’t mean it to, but I would far more trust an Unreal Engineer to pick up Unity than vice-versa. Unreal has so many tools that even a Unity expert will be lost. UE is a more feature rich engine out of the box (a blessing and a curse).

Any seasoned engineer will not try to work for poverty wages unless they are desperately struggling to find work (unlikely, because seasoned engineers are always in demand). Someone who has worked in software long enough to be good at what they do has learned their value
and recognizes that their high pay rate comes from the extensive knowledge and experience they have gained. -
If someone offers to work on a game project for low wages, they’re probably looking to gain experience. This is great. People should try to get experience. But business owners and project managers should just be aware that they are basically paying someone to educate themselves and learn (i.e. go to self-school). This can be good if you want to support the growth of a jr. Engineer, but there are those out there who will simply take your money and not do the self improvement required to get the job done. If this person does do the self improvement, the project will have taken longer, but you will have gained a valuable resource.
