Odd question : Is there an industry standard range for poly count in UE4 for stylized character models? I am currently working on an educational team project, and our professor has asked us to find the industry standard for this after we told him we believed it was dependent on the geometry you needed. He debated this, and asked us to do research to which we could find no answer. All answers welcome, we would just like to end this debate.
Hi ,
There is no set industry standard for character models, no. However, depending on the type of project you are doing performance is a major contributing factor into how many polys you want to have per object. For a single scene, ArcViz, or cinematic piece you will be able to get more polys in than if you are creating a game, as a game has much more going on that requires more space. That isn’t to say you CAN’T run high poly models in a game, and in some games you can have 100,000 to 200,000 polys per character. For most games, however, you are probably going to want to keep it around the 10,000-30,000 range. The only truly hard limit you have is for mobile, which cannot render more than 700,000 verts per scene and only 64,000 per object/character. If you look up poly count on our documentation page you will find a plethora of information on the subject. You can find the doc search here:
