What kind of licensing for the company I work in?

Hi guys,

I’m a 3D generalist and I work in a big architecture & engineering firm. It’s a big business with more than $1 million USD in annual gross revenue, but this revenue is not related to our use of Unreal Engine.

I’m part of a small internal team that uses Unreal Engine to create VR and non-VR applications to show some of our architectural projects (usually the most interesting ones), so the applications are for internal use.

Sometimes, we sell these applications to Real Estate Developers for a cost that is very well below $1 million (let’s say from $30.000 to $50.000 depending on the project size).

We are still using UE 5.3 so we had the free license, but the change in licensing that came with 5.4 makes me uncertain about the kind of license that we need to use when switching to the new versions. The info on https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/license is not clear as our case is a bit in the middle of the different options.

Thanks

hi @ACO_L22 ,

There is an article written about this. Yours will be the new Seat-based licensing as you are not building games.

Future Purchases
You NOW need to download and save any UE Marketplace items you have purchased on USB.

This is because if the supplier DECLINES to go to FAB Marketplace these items will be lost, just like if a supplier leaves UE Marketplace.

In the future 2025 UE Marketplace will be replaced by FAB Marketplace and your company will need to purchase using the third option Business, which will give you a tax invoice based on your country in UK HMRC (VAT).
The Personal option does NOT give the correct pricing and added VAT.

You cannot refund a personal for Business and must purchase again due to tax implications and stop fraud.

Currently 2024 there is only documentation for suppliers, but this is a big gotcha for purchases which will be available at the launch of the FAB Marketplace
