I am having trouble with photo alignment. I snapped 40 photos of an object but less than half of them are registered for alignment. I am thinking it might be a problem with the background.
:?: What is the ideal background for taking photos? A carpet? A white board? Light or dark? Textured or not?
If you use a turntable for your objects you want as uniform a background as possible. typically white or black. sometimes tan.
If your object has little detail (texture and shape wise) you want to move around the object and thus have a background with some stuff going on that the program can latch on to for alignment.
In general you want lots of diffuse light, no shadows, no reflective surfaces, no transparent surfaces (like glass).
You can also resort to using control points, but use those sparingly. Just enough to get things aligned.
