What is meant by: Assets must make proper use of LODs?

Hello All,

Seeking a clarification for Marketplace Submission Guidelines for Meshes #12. Assets must make proper use of LODs.

Can someone please elaborate what is meant by this?

I would imagine if the asset in question is making a significant impact on performance, mesh or material/texture LODs would be necessary to alleviate that.

@SE_JonF I appreciate your insight. I was under the impression UE4 has automatic LOD.

Not necessarily automatic, but since (IIRC?) 4.14 you can generate LODs for meshes in engine. Unless your asset is really going to tank performance you don’t really have to worry about that. LODs whether mesh or material are highly subjective based on an individuals projects or machine. I haven’t had the need to use them in any of my products as they have always been well above 60 fps when testing.

With the automatic LOD generation for meshes, the only thing LOD someone will need to worry is for Particle Systems. These still need to have LOD tweaks when made or they will not pass during submission.
