In the past my sales statics have always been very stable, with almost identical amounts of sales for 4 months.
But about two weeks ago it began that I had only one single sold copy in an entire week. Then there appeared an entry which showed a different amount than my product actually costs. Shortly after it disappeared.
Now today I look again into my statistics and I sold -2 (yes, negative) copies. I can only assume those are refunds, however I thought Epic would contact you in case someone has a problem with a product so that I as the developer can resolve it.
I wouldn’t have started a thread for a single one of these events, but since they all happened so close together and I didn’t experience anything mentioned above in the past I wanted to know what’s going on now…
You don’t have a creator badge and won’t likely be able to read the link Maximum-Dev provided. PM Stephanie or Reuben about it so you can be granted access to the creator’s hub.
Oh yes I didn’t notice he doesn’t have a badge. Point being “don’t worry” everything is ok.
Regarding the sales starting to drop, I think that’s just normal. You should start adding more content/features and update the package more frequently. After a while it becomes really hard to keep the sames up. It has been the same for all my packs as well.
It’s worth noting that we had been lead to believe that the purchases in the link that Maximum-Dev supplied were more or less already sorted… but it seems there are more popping up today =/
I messaged Reuben about the batch, so hopefully I will be able to open the link soon.
Initially I would have thought that on the marketplace the sales curve would look something like a 1/x function (starting very high and falling fast), but it didn’t turn out like this at all. The first few days were pretty high and then it equalized to a pretty much constant rate. Besides the peak of the first month the profit even slightly increased in the next 3 months! And then all of a sudden in the mid of this month the average sales dropped by almost 70%!
I upload an update with new features for every new engine release, however I skipped 4.11 since it was too bugged and now I am waiting since >2 weeks for Epic to release my 4.12 update. Maybe people don’t buy it because the current version is only compatible with 4.10, though it would surprise me if that would cause such a clean cut.
Most people associate lack of compatibility with abandoned assets, so it could be the contributing factor if your asset hasn’t been marked compatible since 4.10. Steam’s summer sale is also doing some damage to wallets this month, so you have that to consider as well. =P
