First, about me. I am a retired electrical engineer who is about 80% deaf, Half of my career was in troubleshooting radar and sonar systems and a few other things. After I retired I took up 3d modeling and have toyed around in that for about 2 years now, And I’m now to the point where I am going to be soon needing something to do with the models I make ( I’m still a noob and I make no bones about that,But I end goals and an understanding of the full workflow is very important to me) Last week I tried unity for a while. But it was giving me flashbacks, So it had to go. Not that I am not up for a challenge but I have a special place in my heart for poorly documented products that are designed to be difficult to use.
But onto what is being done right, After someone with a weeks study.
1- Your documentation matches the product. This makes me happy.
.
2- The unreal engine feels like a tool made to make a product, And not a tool made to inspire a request for paid instruction from a tech rep.
.
3- The video lessons have subtitles. Thank you. Thank you, Thank you. It does so much to make them worth my time!
.
3a- a note for the non-hearing impaired, subtitles means those who can not hear can get something out of the audio instruction, Book lessons and course lessons both have very different ways of presenting information. Information presented in a course video gives some sensation of belonging to a community. And very often the little tangents that come out in a course are as valuable as the course itself.
.
4- The asset library is not filled with rubbish of questionable quality.
.
5- The community here feels as if most of its members strive to keep a semi-professional level of conduct. To me this is a good thing, I like knowing when I visit a forum that I am going to come away culturally and intellectually richer for the experience. Even as a new user of a program, There is a great value in seeing what problems the more advance users are overcoming and how.
Something I would like to see
1- A pure free asset store that novice asset developers can donate the fruits of their practice to, And receive feed back on. I know there would be Quality control issues, Free don’t have to equal garbage. But there can be a huge area between not good enough for a Triple A game, But good enough for a hobbyist to impress their friends.
Anymore and I would seem ungrateful for this polished toy that has been given to me to play with.
