Hey everyone! My name is Aubrey, but I also go by stonewisher as far as the forums go. I’m a self-taught designer, developer, and artist who has worked casually on a wide range of projects and industries over the years. I don’t claim to be the “very best” at one any skill, but I do often feel over-qualified and diversified in most of the settings I’ve applied myself to. Despite that, finding consistent (or at least relatively-predictable) opportunities proves to be tough.
However, partly due to new life demands and partly due to the burning desire I have to make something bigger out of the skills I’ve gathered along the way, I’d like to pursue online work more diligently using Unreal Engine - or perhaps making 3D assets/working with audio in tandem with Unreal Engine.
I am a big fan of the software and have found it to be quite addictive to learn, but I have succumbed to the realisation that I don’t have a firm understanding of how to land my first gig sooner rather than later. This may very well be because the path is not clear, for anyone.
However, if you have any relevant insights to share about finding work or even what sort of jobs are available as a contractor, I’m sure it would be helpful to others to hear your piece, and it would certainly be a huge help in getting my head in the game! I would be so appreciative of any advice or recommendations you might have.
I’m based in Australia at the moment, which isn’t usually a hub for tech or tech-related jobs. So, my search for work will likely extend to the internet, unless there are suggestions for what I could try selling locally. I am so open to running a small business locally using the software, but considering most of Australians are trade-workers or in similar professions, it would probably have to be relevant to what they actually need.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post, and I hope you have a lovely day.
