What are some good sites to get assets from other than the Marketplace?

I am looking for animations for my PvP-RPG game, however none of the anim sets on the marketplace seem to have animations that would fit for characters casting magic spells. Does anyone know good sources for getting content such as ? The price is not as important as the quality for me.

I would check out Mixamo for animations, they have a fairly large collection and they can easily be imported and retargeted in UE4. There are likely many more sites out there, but I will let others fill you in since I am at best a novice animator.

If you are also in need of actual models I would go with Turbosquid personally, they have an awesome collection of really high quality models. You may need to open them in a 3d program and export as an FBX format, but other than that most of them are pretty complete packages.

Hope that helps!

I’ll check those out, thank you!

On blendswap you can also find some skeletal meshes + animations -> ://www.blendswap/

Don’t buy things from turbosquid. They simply “steal” 65% off of sales from the ppl selling there. Ppl still sell in their website because very large companies have deals with Turbosquid to pay cheaper for the same thing you buy for more monies from them…
Pretty bad store.

That’s good to know, do you have better suggestions? I am mainly looking for animations at the moment.

Arteria3d, we have a large selection of animations, especially on our OBM custom modular character series

Also… today will see the start of release of our products in unreal format, so you don’t have to do any of the converting!.. stay tuned.

Yep, Arteria3D are great. Port everything to UE4 and I will buy it all

I’ve never personally used so don’t judge me on quality if it’s lacking, but a person I met mentioned https://www.gamedevmarket.net

I looked through the different sites, and while they look good for standard games, they are “too optimized” for next-gen gaming. From the looks of the different buildings and characters, it looks like they use a mix of bump mapping and normal mapping, which is great on a monitor, but not in VR - which means that almost all of these assets are non-usable without heavy modification, which at that point, it wouldn’t make sense to purchase it since I would spend more time fixing the models than if I had just done the work myself.

However, may not be the case for you… every game, every studio, has their own specific needs when it comes down to it.

I hate to be the one to say , as I respect the time and effort that it takes to put something out there (I am a modeller as well), however, content producers need to step up their game and start using a mix of normal maps for the extremely small details, and tessellation for the bigger details.

They most likely aim at Unity developers with low budget and possible projects for mobile. They won’t sell console quality models for 100 bucks or so…
The only time I saw someone selling a AAA model it was no less than 500$ for one character. Nobody got it and the guy left Unity’s store

And that’s the rub, isn’t it? The engines are getting into the “everyday” indie developer’s hands, with little to no budget, but technology is moving forward at a rapid pace. Very soon (in the grand scheme of things), gaming will not be done on a monitor… 5-10 years maybe?

It’s better to sell a AAA model for $10 to 1500 people, than to sell it for $500 to 10 people.

Not once you factor in support, it’s often better to cull the high risk support cases by pricing them out of the market. Then you can insure the people you do business with receive first class support.

Most of the “top notch” assets / programs / plugins that I use come in a variety of packages or support levels… or a separate support package altogether. Doing something similar on a “marketplace” such as the Unity store or UE marketplace is nigh impossible, however, they can be sold on the company’s site as long as they use an e-commerce package to sell it.

Lite versions: Cheap, cannot use commercially, no support (basically, an educational license)
Full version: Mid Range price (affordable for non-), Can be used commercially, no support
Pro version: Expensive, Can be used commercially, support provided
