New here…
After 5 years happily working with Unreal as a Filmmaker (Animation) I decided to check this, create a map…
Nothing works, Fortnite servers constantly fail to connect and Fab to UEFN is a disaster…
I hope this will improve soon as for now this is wasting my time!
You could make everything on your own:
the servers
the engine
the content
the platform
the console
promote it all (screaming from a street corner?)
distribute it (maybe burn a bunch of cds?)
I’d suggest making some constructive suggestions, tracking down bugs, trying to help wherever you can.
Yeah, sure, you are right. I just wondered how bad this works, at least on my side.
I did not expect that… Does everything work on your side?
not all the time - and never perfectly. But I think if you look at the platform it’s trying to make, it’s worth contributing to - helping to polish. Compared to the alternatives, steam or amazon? IDK what’s better than epic and uefn right now.
@TOYSTORYLAB, You are not incorrect. Though it can be fun at times.
@TeriyakiStyle, while I agree with your sentiments, I just want to add a few things.
The servers - Unless you are planning something extremely complicated, you can use EOS, a service provided by Epic.
The engine - Unreal 5, open-source, fully-featured, and (mostly) free to use.
The content - Best to be creating your own original content, and not publishing it to an FN map. Epic has all rights to use your creative assets, game modes, and more, in any way they please. This isn’t particularly shocking, but make sure to read the TOS.
The platform - I assume you mean the Fortnite application as a portal. And yes, that is attractive.
The console - I will agree here. It is a bit difficult to navigate console publishing.
Promote it all - Epic promotes Fortnite and its various properties. As far as I understand, they are not promoting your work specifically. You still need to scream from the street corner. But there is a handy guide for that.
Distribute it - The Epic and Steam storefronts are incredibly popular for PC. They use the Internet to download data to your computer. No CDs required.
