Weird shifts/breaks on flat surfaces

Hi there again,

I found weird thins happening in some projects. RC generates shifts on flat surfaces, which definitely do not exist there in real world. I am quite sure that there is no problem with overlap (see screenshots). All photos were taken by single camera in few circles around the objects in different heights.

Is there a way to eliminate these things?

 

This is alignment issue.
Can you make screenshot with inspector tool?
Probably you will see lost track between cameras that looks on this objects.

Definitely alignment!

First I would do is use exif grouping, that should help.

Then tighten the alignment by reducing the max reprojection error in steps.

and it fixed the issue.

Enable Inspector tool. And you will see that cameras that used for this part of surface have separate island group, or just alone. This mean cameras not connected right with other, not enough overlap. And as result alignment error first and mesh shift in final. Sometime you can add control points to images between this islands to connect them and fix alignment error. But if possible better shoot more images around this shift.

The indicated link is the automated way of putting all images in one calibration group.

The menu opens by clicking on +Images in 1D view (for people who don’t want to follow the link)  :smiley:

Of course, this only works with one camera and a fixed lens.

Otherwise, the button above (Group) would be the correct one to use.

Thanks for bringing the attention to those buttons - I always do it on import or manually…
