Weird dreams after working with Blueprints....

Hey all,

So I noticed something. Whenever I work in blueprints for an extended period of time, that night I will have dreams the entire night of trying to fit a lot of blueprints together into some kind of weird cohesive thing. It’s like my brain is struggling to fit all the pieces together to make…something, and yet nothing at the same time.

Just a weird thing I noticed. I used to have that happen when I first started programming years ago, but not quite as intense as what blueprints do to my brain. It’s like the visual aspect of blueprints is what does it.

Your nocturnal subconscious brain may be doing some rewiring to make you more efficient when you do work in BP. I find these kind of things fascinating. I have solved Unreal Engine related issues in my dreams before. Woken up with the answer to a problem that was eating me up the day before. It’s amazing what hidden potential we can tap into.

This is a standard thing that happens throughout software development in general!

Many times I have awoken with a solution I have seen in a dream and had to run to the closest machine that I could checkout my source on!

I’ve had some dreams where I wake up in the morning and I can remember my brain furiously working on making SOMETHING work. Sometimes it’s like, “ahh, dang, I didn’t get it to work!” and sometimes it’s like “woo! all the pieces fit together!”

But – the common theme with me is that whatever my dreams failed or succeeded at – the result was literally nothing that made sense at all. It was piecing together something completely random, totally unrelated to any problem I was trying to solve while awake.

And yet I suspect it actually wasn’t completely random. My brain was actually trying to solve a problem, just on its own subconscious terms.

Fascinating stuff!

It is not a dream it is a vision :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m glad I’m not the only one, many times I would just be sitting and a blueprint/kismet solution would just “flash” infront of me.

Haha! Yeah, this happened to me as well when I was learning blueprints.
When learning how to 3D model I remember was the weirdest moment of my life though. Whenever I’d close my eyes for a second I would see “pink dots” everywhere (Shapes’ vertices in Maya used to be drawn as pink dots, now much darker) :wink:

I actually keep a pen and paper next to my bed … Fiance thinks I am weird … because I will quite often wake up in the night and realise the solutions to a problem that I was having. Works for me in Game Development and my normal Development Day Job. 8-}
