We want to start using VR for our clients, can anyone from TM staff answer some questions?

For stepping up our 3D work we want to start showing projects in VR to our clients.

Before pulling the trigger and investing in hardware I would like to ask some questions first:

  • AFAIK the TM Team has tested a bunch VR headsets with the Software, what VR Headset performs the best with Twinmotion? Is there any straight up recommendation?
  • What are the hardware requirements for running VR at high/ultra settings with stable 30+ fps?
  • Is it possible to use Raytracing in VR?
  • Will it be possible to use VR via the Twinmotion cloud in the future?

Our idea was to buy a very fast Laptop that can handle VR and visit our clients with a VR headset end present the project on site.

Any help is much appreciated

Hello ,

Thank you for posting in the community your questions.

  • If you are going to be getting a laptop we recommend the Oculus Quest 2 as it's a great headset for the price and performance, it also only requires one connection unlike other headset that needs several ports. You can user the Air Link but we recommend having a wire with the Oculus Quest 2.

  • In order to user VR you will need to be on the High-end configuration and recommend you take a look at the system requirements here: https://www.twinmotion.com/docs/en-US/getting-twinmotion/hardware-and-software-specifications-for-twinmotion/

  • The FPS depends on the scene, but for high settings it needs a lot of GPU Bandwidth, so get the best you can. Especially for a laptop (I believe the current best is RTX 3080 ti on a laptop, which is only as fast as a desktop RTX 3070). CPU is also very important, get something that has the highest single-core performance possible (though for laptops those usually go hand-in-hand with best GPUs)

  • No Raytracing in VR but as Unreal Engine improves, Twinmotion will benefit from its enhancements for better quality.

  • There is currently the option of using Innoactive's XR Cloud (https://www.innoactive.io/). You can make submit an idea on the road-map regarding the VR feature for Cloud here: https://portal.productboard.com/7pu88c9kpmqtzt8hwg6arujh/tabs/4-under-consideration

Hello Vincent,

we just bought the Meta Quest 2 and will try our Projects with our current Dektop PCs (3060ti, 32GB ram, Ryzen 5 3500x) and acoording to the performance and the overall usefulness of the VR feature we will decide if we will invest into a powerfull Laptop.

Thank you for your detailed reply.
