Hi,
we’ve been struggling in vain trying to update and/or install from scratch UE 5.1.1 ( latest release as I m writing this message ).
we tried first the simplest way :
update and/or install from Epic Game Launcher ; it downloads , initializes and start installing and then shows always some error ( on multiple computers at the office )
image attached :
second way :
then we did download Unreal Engine 5.1.1 source release thru Git repo.
when done, we launched the “Setup.bat” and while starting the Dependencies it stops and show me this error ( relative to ssh-keygen.exe not being able to get access to ) .
log here:
First: For software development, anti-virus other than the Microsoft Defender is a bad idea. Even Defender is best excluded from the folder in question.
Second: Can you exclude the engine folder from your anti-virus scanning?
Third: If not, can you create a new folder, at the root of the disk, called something like C:\UE5, and install/download there instead?
Fourth: If not, can you add an external disk (maybe a USB3 SSD) and install into a place like E:\UE5?
Fifth: If none of that works, maybe a Windows machine in the cloud, like the AWS Unreal Engine images, could work? It will cost a bit more in machine rental, but they won’t run on your inner network and won’t be managed by your local anti-virus.
Are you running as admin that has the ability to install new software on your machine? Seems like you should get your IT department involved in this matter and also figure out what is running on your machines that is preventing it, the good news is the rest of the world can and does use it every day so it is your hardware or hardware setup that is the issue.
