Ways to increase landscape resolution without having to restart from scratch?

Several days after having created my landscape and sculpting it, I realize that for high slopes areas of things I am sculpting, the resolution is too low causing one single polygon to become the whole side of that slope.

The only things I can think of to fix this issue is to:

  • somehow create a height map out of what I have already done in this landscape + deleting this landscape + recreate one with higher resolution but using the size scale, get the same size as what I had before + import the heightmap and just continue from there (is it even possible to create a heightmap out of an Unreal landscape?)

  • keep the same landscape but completely flatten those areas and use a mesh model for the mountain

What would you do in this situation?

Add cliff meshes on the side instead.
Export to a DCC and sculpt some nice geometry that you can place as instanced around the vertical areas.

This. As much as you want it, tessellation in the Z-axis is just not going to be what you (or I) want it to be. Leverage the XY plane and you can get good results, but otherwise EldenRing-it per MostHost_LA.

You can make some decent ‘rock’ or rough meshes in just the Unreal editor directly.
