Hi,
Am I missing something or water material is bugged with path tracer (totally opaque) ?
File is from Vectorworks 2022. Same result with direct link or exported c4d file.

Hello ,
This is a known limitation of Path Tracer at this time, where water materials are not transparent as they are in raster rendering. This is something we're targeting improvements for in the 2023 version of Twinmotion.

Raghib
Is there some work around for this? Why did older versions work fine with path tracer and water yet the new version doesn't?
Hi, The work around mentioned above is very effective. One just need to be very aggressive with the scaling. See below result with material settings. You just need to play around with the color to match your look and feel of the pool. Hope this helps.
Hi,
Unfortunately, there aren't any workarounds, and this is due to a limitation of Path Tracer and the existing Twinmotion water materials.
To clarify, this issue has existed since the introduction of Path Tracer, and water materials never appeared as transparent when using Path Tracer. We're hoping to have a solution for this ready in our 2023 version.
Best,
Raghib
actually, there is one workaround that works quite well. use a default TM plane for water (i gave it a thickness of 65cm but feel free to play around with this), assign a patterned glass material to it. it is important that you use the patterned glass because it has the bump option. then change the bump map to a noise like texture. play with the settings and you will get something that resembles water. you wont get caustics, but im guessing you can probably get that with a bit of tinkering as well. here's how the final image looks:
here's the water object:
here are the material settings:
and here is the bump map i used.
