Hello, I am a first time UE5 user, I installed UE 5.1 fresh and created a blank project (using MacOS Monterey). I have no plugins or anything special in the project.
However any action I do in the editor, it creates hundreds of warning messages in the log:
Warning LogConfig GConfig::Find attempting to access config with non-normalized path /Users/Shared/Epic Games/UE_5.1/Engine/Config/Layouts/UE4ClassicLayout.ini. Please use FConfigCacheIni::NormalizeConfigIniPath before accessing INI files through ConfigCache.
I see you got no reply, but did you figure this out. I just noticed it and it hasn’t caused any problems in my testing, but it is increasing the log size.
No no reply or solution unfortunately. I guess this is present only on MAC devices and there are just too few people using the MACs and having this issue
Hmm. Possibly another space-in-the-path problem. It sure looks like a ini style config issue has popped up which we don’t know how to get around. I didn’t see anything in the release notes that there was some change in config files needed. I’ll guess the space in the path for now. Still hasn’t given me problems but giant logs seem to cause issues with performance. I have to clear the log (not just because of this but due to numerous message I generate in debugging, or eventually, my project will hang. It’s not memory since I’m never close to exceeding the 64GB I run. Hopefully it will disappear in an update.
I feel your pain on the Mac version not being quite up to the Windows version, but that should get better as they have time, though it would appear from the other post that isn’t as important on this issue.
This is also happening to me. It’s actually completely stalling unreal when I press play on a very basic level I’ve built for testing sound assets/Blueprints/line tracing. Sometimes it works for a minute or two before stalling.
2020 16GRam M1 mini. OS 12.6, Unreal 5.1.1, Xcode 13.
I tried updating to Xcode 14 just to see if it would help and it didn’t make a difference.
Everything was working fine for months. Nothing strenuous was added. I am getting the same errors.
Any news on a solution to this would be hugely appreciated.
Just out of curiosity, does this happen when you first play after loading the editor. I find that on the mac, it’s not releasing memory from the previous play sessions and seems to leak. I have 64GB and I can eat it all up by trying to work all day without closing the editor often. The stalls could be that you’ve gone into swapping because of the 16GB? I started a thread on that but no other Mac users have verified that they see this also. I’m inferring that it may not be the GConfig issue that causes the stalls, but memory and threads never being released.
Interesting… It happens when I open Unreal and press play in my level. Sometimes I have to walk around for a bit before I see the errors. Are you saying that it’s possible that Unreal is still storing data in memory from the last time the editor was opened?
No. Sounds like there is no relation to the memory use I am seeing. You mentioned the stall and I was just wondering if that stall was similar to what I see after I have kept the editor open and played several times. Your situation must be different because you get the stall on the first play.
You still might check if the stall is related to swapping by viewing your activity monitor. 16GB wouldn’t be enough for our game and if anything else were open (blender etc) it’s pretty easy to get a swap situation that would cause a stall.
